Discover the Fundamentals of Gardening and Permaculture at Mlango Farm

Looking to enhance your gardening skills or take the first step into permaculture? Join us for an engaging two-day Intro to Gardening and Permaculture Course on September 16th & 17th at the beautiful Mlango Farm in Ngecha.

Tired of gardening that only scratches the surface? It’s time to move beyond conventional methods and discover a way of growing that restores, regenerates, and truly sustains. Permaculture invites you to create abundance while caring for the earth, using principles that work with nature, not against it.

Urban permaculture is about more than just plants; it’s about redesigning how we live, grow, and thrive in the city. From balconies to backyards, we’ll show you how any space can become productive, resilient, and alive.

Permaculture is a way of designing gardens, farms, and even communities that work with nature instead of against it.

It’s about:

  • Caring for the Earth – keeping the soil, water, and plants healthy.

  • Caring for people – making sure we have good food, shelter, and community.

  • Sharing fairly – using resources wisely and making sure there’s enough for everyone (including future generations).

In practice, it means growing food in a way that’s sustainable, regenerative, and low-waste. Instead of chemicals and constant inputs, permaculture uses smart design, like planting crops that help each other grow, harvesting rainwater, composting, and creating systems where “waste” becomes a resource.

It’s basically nature-inspired design for living well.

Why Mlango Farm?

Mlango Farm is a leading example of organic market gardening in Kenya, providing educational retreats and hands-on experiences for individuals to engage with authentic, organic lifestyles. Functioning as a operational farm, it demonstrates organic cultivation and eco-friendly construction, allowing guests to harvest their own crops and gain knowledge in an immersive, natural setting.

Why Permaculture vs Organic vs Conventional?

Conventional farming relies on chemicals and heavy machinery, often harming soil and water.

Organic farming avoids chemicals, but can still focus mainly on single crops.

Permaculture goes further in designing whole systems where soil, water, plants, animals, and people all support each other, creating long-term abundance with less waste and more resilience
